The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU) has announced the release of Miss Fumilayo, a 300-level Law student of the institution who was abducted alongside several other individuals.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) said it received confirmation in the early hours of the day that the student had regained her freedom.

The statement, jointly signed by the SUG President, Temidayo S. Adeboye, and the General Secretary, Joshua O. Shontan, said the student’s release was confirmed by the relevant authorities and representatives of the organisation concerned.

“The University of Ibadan Students’ Union is pleased to inform the University community that our student, Miss Fumilayo, a 300-Level student of the Faculty of Law, who was abducted alongside other individuals, has been safely released,” the statement read.

The union noted that the released victims are currently undergoing post-release procedures before returning to their respective destinations.

It added that the law student is expected to return to the University community once the necessary arrangements have been concluded.

“The released individuals are currently undergoing the necessary post-release procedures and will return to their respective destinations as arrangements are concluded. We have been assured that our student will safely return to the University community soon,” the union stated.

The students’ union expressed appreciation to security agencies, the University of Ibadan management, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and other stakeholders whose efforts contributed to securing the student’s freedom.

It also commended members of the university community for their support throughout the period of the student’s captivity.

“The Students’ Union sincerely appreciates the security agencies, University Management, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and everyone whose dedication contributed to this successful outcome.

“We also thank members of the University community for their prayers, patience, solidarity, and unwavering support throughout this period. Your compassion and unity have been truly encouraging,” the union added.

While celebrating the student’s release, the union prayed for the complete recovery and well-being of all those affected by the abduction.

“As we celebrate this welcome news, we remain grateful to God and pray for the complete healing, restoration, and well-being of everyone affected,” the union said.
