Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed his side have done ‘close to nothing’ in training ahead of crucial upcoming Premier League fixture.

Ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Brighton in the lunch-time kick-off, Arne Slot has expressed his dissatisfaction at the sharp turnaround in-between his side’s fixtures.

Liverpool put in their best performance of the season on Wednesday night, charging to a 4-0 win over Galatasaray and effortlessly securing their place in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The time between the conclusion of that match and Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Beighton kicking of later today is just 62 hours, with a 430-mile round trip to the Amex Stadium compounding their misery.

Player welfare has been an ever-increasing topic of conversation in recent years as football calendars become busier and turnovers in-between games get less and less.

As a result of the increasing workload, we are seeing a significant increase in the amount of injuries footballers are suffering.

ACL injuries are more prevalent than ever and the ability to remain fit is becoming harder and harder.

For Liverpool it is now different, with the ever-reliable Mohamed Salah now ruled out of the Brighton game, as well as Alisson Becker.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Brighton game, Arne Slot has revealed how his team have trained ahead of their crucial clash with the Seagulls as they look to cement a spot in next season’s Champions League.

“Training wise, [we do] close to nothing. Yesterday (Thursday) the players did recovery. The most important thing is recovery, we cannot train in a way that we can learn something to help us to win the game on Saturday.”

“We have to focus completely on recovery. The two things most important to that are sleep and food. We try to make sure they get enough sleep, we get into bed late on Wednesday evening.”

“Yesterday we had a meeting about why we played well, what we have to do and also telling them how important recovery is. Today we will probably be 15-20 minutes on the pitch.”

“We know our style, we know what to expect. This is almost the whole season, it is hardly any training now it is all about recovery, recovery, recovery.”

Many will be interested to see what team Arne Slot fields this afternoon. His dissatisfaction with the turnaround may hint at him bringing some players in that didn’t feature in midweek as he won’t want to run the risk of fatigue at this stage of the season.

With the two significant injury blows to Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker confirmed, Arne Slot will have to re-shuffle as he adjusts to life without two of his star men.
