The Ebonyi State Executive Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ratified the suspension of Barrister Silas Onu over allegations of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, falsification of party structures, and breach of the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

The decision was announced during a State Executive Committee meeting held at the party secretariat along the old Abakaliki-Enugu Road, where the suspension letter was read by the party secretary, Comrade Chukwudi Mgboroko.

According to the party, the three-month suspension followed actions it said were capable of bringing the organisation into disrepute and causing internal instability.

The letter stated that Onu had allegedly presented himself publicly as the elected chairman of ADC in Ebonyi State without recognition from the party, including appearances at public events, in newspapers, and on social media.

It also alleged that ward leaders in Obiozara Ward did not recognise him as a member and accused him of using the online registration process to misrepresent his status within the party.

Following deliberations by members of the committee, a motion to uphold the suspension was moved by the Ebonyi State ADC Coordinator for Electoral Matters and INEC Liaison, Bassey Imoke-Edogi, and seconded by the State Auditor, Vincent Eze. The motion was unanimously adopted.

Speaking after the decision, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, said members are expected to conduct themselves in ways that protect the integrity and collective interest of the ADC.

She stated that the conduct attributed to Onu was considered a violation of the party constitution and harmful to unity, discipline, and orderly administration.

According to the chairman, the suspension bars him from participating in party activities at ward, local government, state, and national levels for the duration of the sanction.

She added that he is prohibited from presenting himself as an official or representative of the party, and from attending meetings, congresses, conventions, or other official gatherings.

The party said the suspension will remain in effect for three months pending further review and the outcome of disciplinary committee proceedings.

The chairman also disclosed that ahead of the party primaries, members have indicated interest in contesting for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly positions.
