Liverpool’s interest in Alessandro Bastoni has been bubbling away in the background for some time, but it now looks to be hardening into something more concrete.
According to reports in Spain, the Reds have made an enquiry for the Inter Milan centre-back ahead of the summer window, testing the waters over what it would take to lure him away from San Siro. Bastoni has long been viewed as one of the standout defenders in Europe and, with Liverpool looking to reshape their back line for the next cycle, it is no surprise to see his name high up on their list.
They are not alone, though. Barcelona are also pushing hard in the race for the 26-year-old, with Catalan sources even suggesting the Italian has “prioritised” a move to La Liga if he does leave Inter. Bastoni is said to favour the idea of playing in Spain and at Camp Nou
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano that while Inter Milan don’t want Alessandro Bastoni to be a record sale – the Serie A giants will still want a sizeable transfer fee:
“Inter considers Bastoni a crucial player and not a normal player. So financially, it has to be a record, kind of record deal. Not the most expensive one. Obviously, Inter sold Lukaku for 120 million euros to Chelsea a few years ago. It’s not going to be those numbers. But Inter want Bastoni to be a record sale for example, among defenders, to be really important.
“Let me explain well, Inter don’t want Bastoni to be a record sale. Inter consider Bastoni as a very expensive player; as a top player, they don’t want Bastoni to go.”
“So in case the situation has to change, must be with a very big financial proposal, this is really important to mention. So it must be a really, really big one.”
In truth, this one still feels like a long shot for Liverpool, with Inter digging their heels the absence of top-class journalist mentioning Liverpool as a potential destination,
