Liverpool’s search for a long‑term heir to Mohamed Salah has thrown up plenty of fashionable names, and Juventus’ Francisco Conceicao is yet another winger being linked.
RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins suggested earlier this week that the Portuguese international is one of the names being monitored ahead of the summer.
Juventus signed him from Porto last summer for around €32 million and quickly turned an initial loan into a permanent five‑year deal. Conceicao has become an important regular for Luciano Spalletti’s side, producing four goals and three assists in 34 outings for Juventus in all competitions this season.
And amid the links with the Anfield club, Conceicao was now quizzed on the interest.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Team’s training camp in Cancun, Mexico this international break, the winger was asked directly on reported Liverpool interest:
“I know people talk about it being a great club, but I play for a big club where I’m happy,” replied Conceicao as quoted by Abola. “Right now I’m only focused on these two games we have with the national team, and then I’ll concentrate on the final stretch of the championship to help my club as much as possible.”
“My goal is to help with goals and assists, that’s what I try to do. I must continue every day to show that I have the ability to help the National Team and be helped by them to continue to evolve”.
In truth, it’s probably wise not to read too much into Conceicao’s answers. He’s doing what almost every ambitious young player does in this situation: showing respect to his current club, shutting down the noise and refusing to hand anyone an easy headline.
The fact he isn’t publicly pushing for a move doesn’t mean Liverpool’s interest isn’t real – it just means he’s smart enough to keep any transfer drama firmly away from the national‑team camp. Journalist Ben Jacobs has however played down Liverpool interest in the attacker.
