The summer transfer window is still months away, but the rumour mill is already turning at full speed – and Juventus’ Francisco Conceicao keeps appearing on Liverpool’s radar as they prepare for life after Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian king’s time at Anfield is drawing to a close, with the legendary winger to depart on a free transfer this summer after an agreement was reached with the club allowing him to leave. With 250 goals and 116 assists across eight extraordinary years, replacing him will be one of the most significant pieces of transfer business any club has undertaken in years.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool are exploring the possibility of a deal for Francisco Conceicao, who is regarded internally as one option to fill the right-wing void. The left-footed winger is known for his explosive one-on-one ability and direct style of play – qualities that make him an attractive fit for a Liverpool squad crying out for some pace on the flanks.
Conceicao joined Juventus permanently last summer from Porto in a deal worth €32 million and is tied to the club until 2030, meaning the Bianconeri hold all the cards in negotiations.
It is claimed that Juventus would demand a fee in the region of £56 million to part with the winger, and that only grows if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which would put the club under financial pressure to move players on.
The player himself, speaking during the international break while on duty with Portugal, played down the speculation. “I know we’re talking about a big club, but I play in a big club where I’m happy,” Conceicao said. “Right now I’m only focused on the games with the national team.”
In truth, there’s no real need to dissect Conceicao’s remarks. He’s simply following the usual playbook for an ambitious young player: publicly backing his current club, brushing aside the speculation and avoiding handing anyone an easy headline.
For now, Liverpool it seems Liverpool are monitoring rather than pushing hard – but with Salah’s departure edging ever closer, that patience may not last long.
