One of the women suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment, where she remains in a life-threatening condition.

The second woman sustained non-serious injuries.

Later that Friday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and has since been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.

Northumbria Police has launched a full investigation into the incident and is appealing for witnesses to come forward, believing those involved are known to one another, reports Chronicle Live.

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr, of the force’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition.
