Since its debut in 2021, there were concerns the crime drama might never return to screens, but it’s making a comeback and viewers are singing its praises.
Anyone seeking a compelling new crime drama can rest assured they’ll be captivated by this BBC series which became one of the most-watched programmes across Ireland.
Kin is an Irish drama co-created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, filmed and set in Dublin. The programme centres on a fictional family embroiled in a brutal gangland conflict.
While originally broadcast on RTÉ One, following its surge in popularity, the series was picked up by both Netflix and BBC, leading to the production of a second season.
At the centre of this hard-hitting narrative are Aidan Gillen and Ciarán Hinds, portraying rival gang leaders Frank Kinsella and Eamon Cunningham. Joining them are the likes of Charlie Cox as Michael Kinsella, Clare Dunne as Amanda Kinsella and Emmett J. Scanlan as Jimmy Kinsella.

However, following years of silence, supporters feared the journey had ended for Kin when the second series concluded in 2023.
Reports now suggest production with the complete ensemble will commence this July as they head back to Dublin. Despite the speculation, no formal announcement regarding a third series has been made.
A representative for Irish broadcaster RTE previously informed the Irish Mirror: “Kin has been an extremely popular series for RTE and if and when there’s something to announce, we will be delighted to do so.”
It’s guaranteed that devotees will be thrilled to witness it, though regardless it appears both existing series of Kin are thoroughly deserving of your attention, as audiences award it a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Drawing parallels between the Irish drama and Peaky Blinders, one critique said: “Absolutely brilliant, one of the best I’ve seen up there with Peekys, the acting throughout is superb and the storyline is gripping, season two just as good, hope there is a season three!”
