A man was rushed to hospital after being set alight in a ‘violent attack’, according to police.
New South Wales police are searching for the person who allegedly set a 25-year-old man on fire at a block of apartments on Monday evening, May 11 in Warrawong.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Todd Street in Warrawong, 90km south of Sydney, at 9pm and forced their way in to the property where they found a man with severe burns to his face, chest, neck and arms.
The force said the man was doused in liquid before the incident, with 50 per cent of his body being burnt in the ‘vicious incident’.
A medical helicopter crew flew to treat the man at the scene as residents also helped paramedics.
He was then airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition last night.
This morning, the hospital confirmed he was now in a serious but stable condition. NSW Police said that this was a ‘targeted’ attack and noted that officers are often called to the complex.
They were told that the man was allegedly set alight by an unknown person who ran away before they arrived.
A crime scene has been established and the force are appealing to the public for assistance. They have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
