The Gombe State Government has approved the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for workers in the local government system across the state.

The approval was conveyed on Friday, April 24, 2026, by the Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, who confirmed that the decision covers workers in the state’s 11 local government councils, the Local Education Authority (LEA), and primary healthcare staff.

Implementation to begin May 2026

According to the state government, the new wage structure will take effect from May 2026, following the clearance of outstanding salary obligations.

Prof. Shehu explained that the government has now paid the remaining 43 per cent balance, bringing the implementation of the minimum wage to 100 per cent across the affected sectors.

Government explains decision

He attributed the development to improved fiscal stability at the local government level, which he said has enabled councils to meet their salary commitments without disruption.

He added that the full implementation of the minimum wage is expected to improve workers’ morale, enhance productivity, and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level.
