The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Police Monitoring Unit to investigate allegations connecting two senior police officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, to the disappearance and alleged killing of social critic and lecturer Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata.

Dadiyata, a lecturer and outspoken social media activist, was abducted from his residence in Barnawa, Kaduna State, in August 2019 and has not been seen or heard from since the incident.

The latest directive followed petitions submitted on Friday, May 8, by Kano-based activist and human rights lawyer Abba Hikima, who called for a thorough probe into fresh allegations surrounding the case.

The petitions referenced claims made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.

According to the petitions, Kamarawa alleged that the two officers had threatened him and claimed in his presence that Dadiyata and others had been killed during operations linked to Operations Yaki in Kaduna.

The legal team behind the petitions argued that the seriousness of the allegations required an open and transparent investigation, stressing that such a process would either clear the officers involved if the claims were false or ensure accountability if they were found to be true.

The petitions further noted that the disappearance of Dadiyata has remained a major source of public concern for years and called for the establishment of an independent investigative panel to examine the matter thoroughly.

In response, the Inspector-General, through his Principal Staff Officer, CF Lateef Adio Ahmed, acknowledged receipt of the petitions and confirmed that the matter had been referred to the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Monitoring Unit for immediate action.

The police also assured the petitioners that the Force remains committed to justice, accountability, and proper investigation of the allegations.
