Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new secondary school at Kaura Goge in Nasarawa Local Government Area, marking the start of a project aimed at improving access to education in the community.

The planned school is set to replace the former Maikwatashi School, which had fallen into disrepair over time and was also affected by encroachment, with reports that portions of its land were allegedly sold illegally by some individuals.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the decision to establish the new school followed complaints from residents as well as the need to provide more accessible learning facilities for children in the area.

The statement also noted that ownership of the old Maikwatashi School had been transferred to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies for educational use.

Governor Yusuf explained that many students in the community currently travel long distances, particularly to Sabon Gari and other areas, in order to attend school, adding that the new facility is intended to ease that burden.

“There are huge numbers of students in this area who had to go to Sabon Gari for schooling. That is why we want to build a school here,” the governor said.

He further urged residents to cooperate with the contractor handling the project to ensure it is completed on schedule, while also warning that the work must be executed according to required standards and specifications.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, disclosed that the project is valued at N1.3 billion and will include 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, and four libraries, among other facilities.

He described the foundation-laying ceremony as evidence of the governor’s commitment to delivering on campaign promises, particularly in the education sector.
