Liverpool U21s dismantled the i2i Football Academy this afternoon in a game that brought up several talking points.

Rob Page’s side won 6-0 as Will Wright and Keyrol Figueroa scored a brace each.

Figueroa, who suffered an unfortunate injury setback that sidelined him for two months amid reports of a potential loan move away back in January, looked confident upon his return.

Wright continues to impress as he confirms the belief that many held last summer that his signing from Salford City to Liverpool was seen as a major coup for the Reds.

Kareem Ahmed and Michael Laffey added their names on to the scoresheet in what was another triumphant result for Rob Page in an impressive season from him and his players.

Within the Liverpool U21 set-up includes several players who will be itching to get onto the bench for the senior team’s Merseyside Derby this weekend.

Lewis Bower, who keeps a keen eye on the academy, teased who could have made that bench before correcting his original statement.

His first tweet on X read: “No Kieran Morrison for the Liverpool U21 team today, suggesting he will be in the first-team squad tomorrow s a spot re-opens with Ekitike’s injury.”

Before a correction was posted: “Correction… Morrison misses out with injury.”

Morrison has earned his senior call ups due to a brilliant campaign for the U21s this season where he has scored 14 goals and registered 4 assists in 18 games in the Premier League 2.

Hugo Ekitike suffered a serious Achilles injury as Liverpool bowed out of the Champions League to PSG on Tuesday, potentially ruling him out for up to nine months.

Hugo Ekitike’s injury has re-opened a spot in Arne Slot’s squad and tomorrow would no doubt have presented Morrison with an ideal opportunity to get onto that pitch against Everton to prove his worth.

However, he must now deal with this setback and come back stronger.
