Liverpool FC Women are lining up another Bundesliga reinforcement, with Slovenia international Sara Agrez poised to join the club from 1. FC Köln on a free transfer this summer, according to women’s football specialists Soccerdonna.Â
The outlet, which operates as a women’s‑football focused extension of the well-known data platform Transfermarkt, reports that the left-footed centre-back is expected to become the next piece in Liverpool’s rebuilding project.
There is no mention of the fee that the Anfield club will be paying.
Agrez, 25, has become one of Cologne’s key defenders, making more than 40 appearances for the Bundesliga side and helping anchor their back line with her reading of the game and calm distribution. She previously gained top-level experience with VfL Wolfsburg and Turbine Potsdam, having made her Bundesliga debut at 19, and has already passed the 50-cap mark for Slovenia.
A recent foot injury kept her sidelined earlier this season, but she has returned to be a regular starter again in what is Cologne’s highest-scoring campaign under coach Britta Carlson.
The move would continue an aggressive summer reset at Liverpool, who have already agreed a free transfer for Wolfsburg forward Vivien Endemann, a German international with Champions League and Olympic pedigree.
After flirting with relegation but effectively securing their Women’s Super League status with games to spare, the Reds are intent on pushing back towards the division’s midfield pack rather than merely surviving.
Their defensive record is not the best with 29 goals conceded in 19 WSL games, and adding a naturally left-sided centre-back who can also cover at full-back would give manager Gareth Taylor greater balance and depth.
There is also growing international quality running through the squad.
Midfielder Fuka Nagano and full-back Risa Shimizu both lifted the Women’s Asian Cup with Japan in March, each recording two assists en route to the title, and returned to Merseyside as continental champions.
With Asia’s best, a new German international attacker and, if all goes to plan, a robust Slovenian defender arriving from the Bundesliga, Liverpool appear determined to transform a relegation escape act into the foundations of a genuinely competitive Women’s Super League side.
