PSG boss Luis Enrique says there is no favorite in the upcoming Champions League tie between his team and Liverpool, which will take place soon after the March international break.

Liverpool has struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season and is in a battle to qualify for UEFA’s top competition next term. But in Europe is where its best performances have come, including earlier this week against Galatasaray.

Liverpool holds good memories for us, of course,” Enrique admitted. “I remember last year. Liverpool were the best team in Europe at that stage; they were playing incredible football.”

This time, though, even though the Reds are not playing as well, PSG is anticipating a game in which things could go either way. It knows that Liverpool can turn it on when it is at its best.

“We’re looking forward to this quarter-final, first in Paris, then in Liverpool,” Enrique continued.

“I’m fortunate to have an incredible team and intelligent players. They know that in this type of game, there are no favorites. It’ll be very positive for us to play these two games.”

The first leg will take place on April 8, with the return at Anfield on the 14th. Last year, PSG eliminated Liverpool on penalties.

Speaking ahead of the game at Brighton, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz outlined the importance of building on the momentum generated in Europe and taking that into the final quarter of the campaign.

“It will be very important for us, also for our mind and also for the spirit in the team that we just create momentum and also an energy that we can win all the games now,” Wirtz told club media this week.

“It’s always good to have a better feeling and also a better atmosphere in the changing room because when you don’t win the team is not really happy.

“So, it’s always better to win and of course we need the points as well so we will be ready for the game and try to take the three points home.”

However, a 2-1 defeat on the South Coast saw Liverpool’s momentum take a hit with the PSG clash on the horizon.
