Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker continues to be linked with a return to Serie A with speculation mounting regarding interest from the Italian giant Juventus.

Alisson is currently sidelined through an injury that he hopes to return from before the campaign comes to a close, with Giorgi Mamardashvili stepping in for the last few fixtures. The Brazilian has suffered from several setbacks in the last couple of seasons.

Recently, Liverpool activated the clause in his contract that added an additional year to his deal, but that still means he is only tied down until 2027 — with Juventus said to be keen.

According to the Italian outlet Tuttomercato, Alisson is the Old Lady’s top transfer target heading into the summer. It is currently managed by Luciano Spalletti, who was in charge when he was at AS Roma.

Signing Mamardashvili, who arrived from Valencia last summer, was the long-term succession plan for when Alisson moved on. And turning 34 later this year, with a far from perfect injury history, it will be interesting to see when that decision comes.

Liverpool has already confirmed that Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will be leaving this summer. Alisson is another hugely important figure behind the scenes and in the locker room.

“It’s not an opportunity, it’s a must,” Virgil van Dijk said recently when asked about new leaders stepping up.

“It has to happen. There was always going to be a time when the oldies were going to leave.

“That’s the time for others to step up and carry the torch and the values of the club forward by setting the right example. All good things come to an end eventually.

“When the leadership group is gone, then others have to step up. There is no other option. You have to feel that responsibility.”

Juventus is also said to be interested in Darwin Nunez to bolster its attack. The Uruguayan only moved to Saudi Arabia last summer but Al Hilal soon bought Karim Benzema too and would be willing to let him move on.

The Italian side is interested in Bernardo Silva, who will leave Manchester City, and hopes to keep full-back Andrea Cambiaso, who has been touted for a big-money switch to the Premier League.

Liverpool.com says: Alisson remains a top goalkeeper but his injuries are a legitimate concern. In Mamardashvili, Liverpool has its successor lined up for whenever it is that he moves on.
