The Premier League have confirmed the date for Manchester United’s home clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford, in what could prove to be a decisive fixture in the race for a top-five finish.

United currently sit two places and six points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool, underlining the importance of the encounter as both sides push for Champions League qualification.

Liverpool face a demanding run-in, with matches still to come against teams in third, fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth – many of whom are also competing for European spots.

Arne Slot will be hoping to replicate his only previous Premier League visit to Old Trafford, when Liverpool secured a dominant 3-0 win in September 2024. Luis Díaz scored twice that day, while Mohamed Salah added the third to seal victory over Erik ten Hag’s side.

This time, however, Slot will come up against a different setup, with Michael Carrick in interim charge following Ruben Amorim’s departure. Carrick remains unbeaten since taking over, adding another layer of difficulty to the contest.

Liverpool head into the match under pressure, having failed to win their last three league games, including a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the end of March.

The stakes are further heightened by the fact that this will be Salah’s final appearance at Old Trafford as a Liverpool player, following his recent announcement that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Before the season began, the Premier League indicated that the fixtures selected for live television broadcast in matchweek 35 would be announced around March 25.

It has now been confirmed that Manchester United will host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 3, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm BST. The match has been selected for live coverage on Sky Sports in the UK.

This scheduling further highlights the significance of the clash, with both sides battling for crucial points in the race for Champions League qualification.
