Chukwudi Dimkpa, former Managing Director of the Rivers State Signage and Advertisement Agency (RISAA), has been elected as the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State following a consensus-driven state congress.

The party’s Election Committee announced the outcome in Port Harcourt, confirming that the congress was held across all 23 local government areas and 319 wards in line with directives from the ADC national leadership.

According to the committee, the exercise also produced a new set of state and local government executives as part of a broader internal restructuring process within the party.

A formal handover of leadership responsibilities to the newly elected executives is expected to take place in the coming days.

Speaking after his emergence, Dimkpa said his selection reflected the collective will of party members, stressing that the process was driven by consensus and popular support within the party structure.

He said leadership in a democratic setting must remain people-centred, adding that his administration would prioritise inclusiveness and open participation.

Dimkpa also noted that the party remains open to new members, stating that ongoing registration efforts are aimed at expanding its base and encouraging wider participation ahead of future political contests.

The chairman of the Election Committee, Obaro Egunune, commended party members for what he described as a smooth and cooperative process, despite the challenges involved in coordinating across multiple administrative divisions.

The outgoing state chairman, Leader Sampson, described the congress as credible and well-organised, saying it adhered strictly to guidelines issued by the national leadership of the party.

He congratulated the incoming executives and called on all members to rally behind the new leadership to ensure unity and progress within the party.

Sampson also expressed optimism that with continued cooperation, the party would be better positioned to achieve electoral success in the 2027 general elections.
