Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has confirmed he will retire at the end of the 2025-26 season. The 38-year-old has played for Club Brugge since 2019.
He has won four league titles and a Belgian Cup, following a six-year spell at Liverpool, where he made 204 appearances and kept 65 clean sheets.
He was part of the Reds’ 2019 Champions League-winning squad. Mignolet began his career at Sint-Truidense, moved to Sunderland in 2010, and earned 35 caps for Belgium.
Mignolet said: “I am happy that I was able to return after my injury and put myself once again in the position to experience these last games as a fit player and contribute on the pitch.
“What I want to promise our supporters is simple: the end result is not completely in my control, but my commitment, willpower and determination will be there every day until my very last moment at Club Brugge.
“This is how I have always been and this is how I want to finish. This is not the time for extended thanks or emotional retrospectives. Not because there aren’t any, on the contrary.
“But because the story is not yet finished. There are still ten important games ahead of us with one clear goal: to become champions and grab that second star.”
