Gunmen have attacked Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State, leaving one person dead and several others injured in an incident that has triggered tightened security operations across the affected communities.
The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday night in Barbaji village, under Jajaye Ward, when four armed men arrived the area on motorcycles and allegedly opened fire on residents.
Vigilante member targeted
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community around 9:00 p.m., dressed in khaki outfits, and directly targeted a local vigilante member identified as Alasan Yellow.
He was said to have been shot at close range in front of his shop, causing panic in the area. Another resident who attempted to intervene was also reportedly hit by gunfire.
The attackers then moved to a nearby vigilante office where they reportedly fired sporadically, forcing residents to flee for safety.
One dead, others injured
The Commander of the Rogo vigilante group, Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, confirmed the incident while briefing local authorities.
He said one person died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.
According to him, about four injured victims are currently receiving treatment, with one person in critical condition referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for specialised care.
Security response
Barhaya added that vigilante members, working alongside security operatives, were able to evacuate the injured to nearby medical facilities and prevent further escalation of violence.
Following the attack, authorities have reinforced security in the area with joint patrol teams drawn from neighbouring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue to track down those responsible for the attack.
