Viewers took to social media to criticise Trump’s reading of the bible passage in a marathon reading claiming that the president was ‘using a teleprompter’ and ‘struggling to read’

President Donald Trump took part in a marathon reading of the Bible, along with many of his leading Christian supporters and top Republicans, with watchers claiming that he ‘struggled’ as he read from a teleprompter.

Trump read his passage from the Oval Office, with most of the other readings taking place at the Museum of the Bible in Washington.

The US President read an Old Testament passage on Tuesday evening that called for national repentance in ancient Israel — words that have been used for decades by those promoting the belief that America has been and should be a Christian nation.

He recited the segment from his desk with his hands folded on an open Bible in front of him, though he was looking straight into the camera, with viewers of the live stream commenting that he was reading from a ‘teleprompter’.

Another critiqued the president’s reading claiming “Trump recording this days ago”.

The video cut back and forth between two camera angles.

In a statement commemorating the event Trump said the Bible is “indelibly woven into our national identity and way of life.”

The passage he read has been recited over the decades at countless rallies, services and events.

It’s from the seventh chapter of 2 Chronicles, a book in the Hebrew (Old Testament) portion of the Bible.

The most quotes verse says: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

As the US president read the passage one viewer said “Trump is struggling to read.”

The event comes after Trump drew criticism from supporters for circulating a meme where he appeared as Jesus.

Trump removed the image from his Truth social site and insisted him was being depicted as a doctor in the white robe.

One viewer said: “Trump thinks he can commit blasphemy and post an AI picture of himself as Christ and read a few chapters of the bible and think everything’s ok.”
