Troops of the 159 Battalion have detained two men suspected of having links to terrorist groups during a routine stop-and-search operation in Yobe State.
The arrests were made on the morning of April 30, 2026, at a military checkpoint in Kanama, where soldiers from B Company were carrying out standard security checks on travellers.
The suspects, identified as Dahiru Mohammed, 40, and Ismail Adamu, 34, both from Geidam, were stopped while returning from Damasak market. Their interception followed what was initially a routine inspection.
Security sources said that further checks on the suspects led to the discovery of materials on their mobile phones that raised suspicion, including images believed to indicate possible links to terrorist activity.
Following the discovery, both men were taken into custody along with the items recovered during the search.
Military authorities said the suspects are currently being held as investigations continue, with further action expected depending on the outcome of inquiries.
