Former Chelsea and AC Milan star Ruud Gullit has identified Spain and France as the strongest contenders for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament is scheduled to be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, with 48 national teams expected to compete when the competition begins in the summer.

Speaking to Diario AS, Gullit said he views Spain and France as the leading teams heading into the tournament.

“I see Spain and France as the strongest,” he said.

The Dutch football legend also expressed hope that the Netherlands would go on to win the competition.

“And I hope, of course, that the Netherlands wins,” Gullit added.

Argentina are the current holders of the World Cup after winning the last edition in Qatar four years ago.
