Yan Diomande has been a player of interest to Liverpool for some time now.
It was reported as far back as November that Liverpool had sent scouts to monitor the rising star who is currently plying his trade at RB Leipzig.
Whilst the Bundesliga side is hoping to tie the player down to a new contract and a release clause that the player has found intriguing, he is still set to be one of the hottest properties on the market with several of Europe’s giants registering interest in the player.
He has warranted this interest as he has been a standout player as a teenager for a team competing in a top-five league
Diomande proved his worth once again over the weekend by scoring the only goal in RB Leipzig’s win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
However, an off-the-pitch tussle could be about to put a spanner in the works.
In February Yan Diomande switched the agency he was managed by from Maxidel, an agency founded by former Ivory Coast captain Max Gradel, to Roc Nation that was formed by rapper Jay Z and has the likes of Vinicius Junior and Gabriel Martinelli on their books.
In the past, Gradel publicly announced that the winger had committed himself to an exclusive contract with his agency but with his switch to Roc Nation confirmed, Gradel has taken the information to the International Court of Sport.
According to Gradev, as quoted by Kicker: “If the player first revoked the mandate and then signed a contract with a new consultant, this is his statutory subjective right. He would only have to pay compensation if the termination was untimely. However, if the player has violated the exclusivity clause of his intermediary contract with the former intermediary, it is a breach of contract.”
“The difficult thing in such cases is the proof of the damage. The only chance exists if there is a contractual penalty clause.”
Yan Diomande will find himself having to pay compensation if the International Court of Sport finds him guilty of breaching his contract with Maxidel.
Kicker also goes on to report that whoever negotiates the next contract for the 19-year-old will, whether as a correction with Leipzig or for a transfer to an international top club will collect £1million.
How this will affect his future and any potential summer move remains to be seen but there is a lot that will go in to striking a deal for the player this summer.
