Residents of Sokoto State have been urged to remain alert and take greater responsibility for their safety as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen security across communities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmed Abdul Usman, delivered the message on Monday during a Sallah visit to Gwadabawa Local Government Area, where he engaged traditional leaders, council officials, and community members as part of the festive outreach. The visit included courtesy calls on the local council chairman and the District Head of Gwadabawa, Sarkin Gobir, Alhaji Lawal Zayyana.
Speaking during the engagements, Usman stressed that maintaining security is not the duty of government alone, but a shared responsibility that requires active participation from all residents. He urged people to stay observant in their surroundings and to promptly report any unusual or suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
According to him, timely information from the public remains one of the most effective tools in preventing security threats and ensuring peace at the community level.
He also reassured residents that the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu remains firmly committed to improving the security situation in the state. He explained that ongoing collaboration between security agencies and communities, alongside targeted interventions, is being strengthened to address emerging threats and sustain stability.
Usman further called on traditional rulers, youth groups, and other community stakeholders to support government initiatives by promoting unity and discouraging activities that could disrupt peace. He noted that peaceful coexistence is essential for meaningful development and urged residents to work collectively towards a safer environment.
As part of his Sallah activities, the security adviser also visited the General Hospital in Gwadabawa, where he offered financial assistance to patients and their families. He described the gesture as a reflection of the importance of compassion and solidarity, especially during festive periods, while also praying for the quick recovery of those receiving treatment.
In a related development, Usman extended condolences to the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Isa Tambagarka, following the passing of his sister. He prayed for the repose of her soul and asked for strength for the bereaved family to cope with the loss.
He expressed optimism that continued cooperation between citizens and government authorities would further improve peace and development across Sokoto State, adding that unity among residents remains key to achieving lasting stability.
The visit was attended by several officials, including Alhaji Aminu Gwadabawa, a Permanent Secretary in the state civil service, Mu’azu Shamaki, and Basharu Guyawa, who accompanied the adviser throughout the engagements.
