The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students for allegedly falsifying their admission entry qualifications.
The decision was taken at the university’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, following the report of a committee set up to investigate cases of admission irregularities.
According to a statement published in the university’s bulletin, the affected students were found to have presented fake or altered credentials during the admission process.
The university said the action violates its academic regulations, which prescribe expulsion for such offences, and added that the students span various departments and levels of study.
BUK management said the measure is part of efforts to maintain academic integrity and sanitize its records, warning that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for academic fraud and misconduct.
In a related disciplinary case, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a Civil Engineering student for allegedly assaulting examination invigilators during a test session, an incident said to have disrupted academic activities.
The university stressed that any breach of its rules would continue to attract strict sanctions in line with established regulations.
