Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected informant linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Yobe State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, that the suspect was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. on April 23 by troops of Sector 2 deployed at the airport.

According to the sources, the individual was observed behaving suspiciously near a military facility before being taken into custody by the troops.

He was reportedly questioned at the point of arrest but did not provide useful information before being transferred to a military intelligence unit for further interrogation.

The sources also noted that while the general security situation within the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable, even as troops maintain high morale and operational readiness.

The arrest comes weeks after two other suspected informants were apprehended in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State over alleged links with Boko Haram/ISWAP activities.

In a separate development, gunmen have reportedly killed five people, including a traditional ruler, his wife, son, and two other residents, in Olegabulu community, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

Residents said the attack occurred on Thursday night when the assailants arrived on two motorcycles and headed directly to the residence of the traditional ruler.
