Suspected terrorists launched a deadly assault on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three Mobile Police officers and leaving two others injured.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 3am, when heavily armed assailants stormed the facility in what residents and sources described as a coordinated operation that caught the officers unprepared.
According to sources in the area, the attackers opened fire on the camp, triggering chaos within the community. The sound of gunshots reportedly spread panic among residents, many of whom fled their homes in fear as the assault unfolded.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command was aware of the attack but was still compiling full details.
“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly,” she stated.
The latest assault comes days after another violent incident in the state. On Wednesday, armed men suspected to be bandits attacked Oko-Erese community along Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where two farmers were killed and two women abducted.
Sources said the attackers invaded farmlands on Tuesday, targeting farmers at work. Two victims were shot dead on the spot, while two women were taken away by the assailants, with their identities yet to be confirmed at the time.
In the same series of attacks, another resident was reported to have narrowly escaped death but sustained serious injuries. According to a source, although gunshots fired at him did not penetrate, he was struck on the head with a stick while attempting to flee.
Earlier reports also indicated that armed men attacked a forest guard identified as Saheed and a civilian, Rashid Oke-Apata, in Babanla community, also in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The two men were said to be travelling on a motorcycle when they were ambushed. One person was abducted while the other sustained serious injuries after the attackers opened fire on them.
The sequence of incidents has raised fresh concerns over security in parts of Kwara State, as communities continue to face repeated attacks by armed groups.
