Pop star Britney Spears is facing a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge nearly two months after she was arrested in Ventura County, California.

Prosecutors confirmed that the 44-year-old singer has been formally charged with one count of DUI following her arrest on March 4. Authorities said she is scheduled to be arraigned at Ventura County Superior Court on Monday, May 4.

It remains unclear whether Spears will appear in court in person, as defendants in misdemeanor cases are typically allowed to have their legal representatives attend on their behalf.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office, Spears may be offered a “wet reckless” plea option.

This arrangement allows a defendant to plead guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs, and is generally considered in cases involving first-time offenders, low blood alcohol levels, and situations where no injuries or accidents occurred.

Authorities said the singer was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers at around 9:30 p.m. on the night of her arrest after multiple emergency calls were made reporting erratic driving. She was released the following morning.

At the time, representatives for Spears described the incident as serious and unacceptable, adding that she intended to comply with legal requirements and take steps toward addressing underlying issues.
