Alisson Becker has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League lunch-time kick-off against Brighton.

The Brazilian FA confirmed yesterday that Liverpool’s No.1 had withdrawn from the squad and that has led to his exclusion from Liverpool’s travelling squad to Brighton as well.

The 33-year-old shot stopper has struggled with injuries this season, missing nine games for the Reds so far.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will start the game at the Amex Stadium between the sticks, with the Georgian making his 13th appearance of the season this afternoon.

What adds to the concern about Alisson is the update he provided via his Instagram story where he admits that he will be sidelined ‘for a while’, but he is already working his hardest to get back onto the pitch as soon as possible.

It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian will return in time for the end of the season, but with this being such a crucial period of Liverpool’s season, this is a significant blow for the club.

Speaking ahead of the Brighton game, Arne Slot has given his thoughts on Giorgi Mamardashvili who will have to step up again during Alisson’s absence.

“Away at Galatasaray he had to be in goal because Ali wasn’t there and he’s been in goal a lot of times this season. At a club like ours it’s very important to have two very good keepers.”

The drop from Alisson to the majority of goalkeepers in world football will always be seen as a slight drop-off but Liverpool will be happy that they have one of the most promising goalkeepers in Giorgi Mamardashvili who can step up when the Brazilian is unavailable.
