Some major news from Germany has emerged regarding Arne Slot.

Liverpool’s season has already been dominated by uncomfortable questions about what comes next in the Anfield dugout, but the noise from abroad has just gone up a notch. The mood around Arne Slot has shifted sharply in recent weeks, with the glow of that title-winning debut campaign already forgotten with the stuttering performances and growing frustration in the stands.

Now, fresh claims from Germany suggest that the story may already be writing itself. Rather than Liverpool pulling the trigger mid-season, reports indicate that the decisive change could arrive once this campaign is over – and that a very familiar name is being lined up.

Axel Hesse of SportBILD has reported that Arne Slot is expected to leave Liverpool in the summer, with Xabi Alonso being lined up as his replacement:

“The tenth league defeat of the season is expected to have sealed the end of Arne Slot (47),” Hesse wrote.

“After the 2-1 defeat in Brighton, it was probably only the weakness of the direct competitors for the Champions League places that saved the Liverpool coach from immediate dismissal. The step will be taken in the summer at the latest. The desired successor has already been determined: Xabi Alonso (44). However, Leverkusen’s champion maker does not want to join during the season.”

If these reports prove accurate, it will mark a staggering turnaround from the optimism everyone connected to the club enjoyed just last August.

The Dutchman was supposed to be the man to steer Liverpool into a new era after the Klopp years, yet the combination of an underwhelming title defence and the mounting fan pressure has left his long-term prospects looking increasingly fragile as the season draws to a close.
