Arsenal are showing interest in signing Anthony Gordon as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Anthony Gordon is having a strange season.

In the Champions League, he has been exceptional: 10 goals and one assist across 12 appearances, including four goals in a single match against Qarabağ in February.

In the Premier League, the numbers tell a different story: five goals and two assists in 25 league games, with analysts pointing to his struggles against low-block defences as a recurring weakness.

His 36.6 km/h top speed and 4.2 progressive carries per 90 minutes make him one of the most direct wide players in England, and his pressing stats rank him in the 90th percentile among wingers.

That profile explains precisely why Liverpool have been tracking him for well over a year.

Liverpool tried to sign Gordon in the summer of 2024, with talks escalating to the point where Jarell Quansah was discussed as part of an informal package.

Newcastle were willing to sell to meet PSR obligations, but the deal collapsed when Liverpool would not meet the £80 million valuation.

The episode left Gordon visibly affected.

Sources close to the winger confirmed at the time that “The Euros were a waste of time,” reflecting his frustration after the proposed move fell through and he was dropped from England’s last-16 squad.

Notably, during Euro 2024, Gordon had confided in teammates about the potential move, and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold was soon singing, “He’s coming home, he’s coming home.”

It did not come home.

DAVEOCKOP later revealed, exclusively, that Liverpool maintained active contact with Gordon’s representatives after that window, with the winger’s long-standing friendship with Curtis Jones keeping the Anfield connection warm.

Now Arsenal have formally entered the picture, and Liverpool, if they are still interested in the Englishman, face a serious fight.

BBC Sport report, “In terms of incomings, Arsenal are admirers of Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento and, with the Magpies likely to sell at least one of their key players this summer, the Gunners are monitoring the England international’s situation.

Arsenal also hold some interest in Livramento’s team-mates midfielder Sandro Tonali and winger Anthony Gordon, who the Gunners looked seriously at in the summer of 2024.”

Gordon’s representatives have reportedly made Arsenal aware that the prospect of working under Mikel Arteta is genuinely appealing, and Newcastle’s likely failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has not gone unnoticed in his camp.

For Liverpool, who are already losing Mohamd Salah and Andy Robertson this summer and sitting fifth in the league, the prospect of Arsenal landing their long-term target may be a painful one, but with Liverpool reportedly leading the race to sign Yan Diomande, there might be no need to worry.
