Chuck Norris died this week, with the actor’s sudden death surprising his loved ones due to his love of staying fit and healthy right up until he died
Chuck Norris’s friends were left “blindsided” by his death as the star died at the age of 86. The iconic actor died following a medical emergency while on holiday in Hawaii with his family, sharing the death in a post on Instagram on Friday, March, 20.
At the time, they wrote: “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and at peace.”
Chuck’s decline appeared to have been sudden; 24 hours prior to his death, he was reportedly admitted to the hospital on the island of Kauai, where he owns a second home. Just one day earlier, he was seen training on the island, and he had been a “vision of health” before he suddenly died.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source explained: “Chuck worked out and trained almost everyday of his life. He would spar and just be active always, every time someone would talk to him or see him, he’d be coming from or going to a workout, he was definitely up on his fitness leading into his death.”
The insider added that Chuck had “lived a life of always being in tremendous shape both spiritually, mentally and physically.” The family friend also shared how Chuck had always been close with his loved ones, including his second wife and model Gena O’Kelley and their twin son and daughter.
They explained: “He had a tight-knit family and friend base that would talk to him all the time and see him often. The last several weeks he was very healthy and happy, working out and just enjoying life.”
Chuck had celebrated turning 86 on March 10 with a post on Instagram where he was seen working out. He captioned the upload: “I’m 86 today! Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young. I’m grateful for another year, good health, and the chance to keep doing what I love.
“Thank you all for being the best fans in the world. Your support through the years has meant more to me than you’ll ever know. God Bless, Chuck Norris.”
His high level of physical fitness meant his family have been left shocked by his death. The insider added: “There was no reason for anyone to think he was sick as he was always in great spirits, happy and looked young and vibrant. This was a very big surprise.”
Chuck had remained in great shape for his age, with him telling his fans he felt far younger than his years. He previously told The Healthy in 2023: “I’m grateful to feel strong, healthy and energized. I don’t see age as a reason to slow down – if anything, it’s given me the chance to renew my commitment to fitness and nutrition.”
His family called him a “devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.” Their statement added, “He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”
