Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard has led Coventry City to a place in the Premier League after a brilliant season and he has now been recognised with a personal award
Frank Lampard has been crowned as the EFL Championship manager of the season after helping Coventry City to promotion. The former Chelsea star has masterminded a stunning push to a place in the Premier League next season with a brilliant campaign.
The Midlands side already have 86 points to their name this season, with three games remaining to secure the title. But even without silverware, Lampard has already claimed a personal accolade of his own.
Lampard, 47, was named as the Championship manager of the season at the EFL awards on Sunday evening. He was not the only one to be recognised at the EFL awards, with a number of Coventry stars having been named in the Championship team of the season. Carl Rushworth was named in goal, with Milan van Ewijk, Matt Grimes and Haji Wright all joining him in the side.
Coventry will be aiming to take a significant step towards the Championship title in midweek as they welcome Portsmouth to the CBS Arena. They then take on Wrexham and Watford in their final two games of the campaign.
Speaking after Coventry’s promotion was confirmed, he said: “It’s amazing. I’ve talked before about the fan base, what they’ve gone through and all the disappointments, and they’ve stuck with the club and all the stories. And then now they get this moment. It’s a serious, serious football club. I didn’t even realise.

“I knew the history. I knew Coventry growing up. Coventry were a Premier League, First Division team. But this incredible fan base and what it means to the city, and what these players have achieved.
“We came in 15 months ago, 17th in the league. Mark Robins has done an incredible job to get them back up where they were. But then to go and get automatic promotion as a non-parachute team with three games to go.
“Those boys there, how they’ve listened and trained and everything they’ve done every day. It makes me feel emotional because they’re so great to work with, and they deserve every second of celebrating and getting it done.
“It’s not. It’s harder. And these boys have managed to achieve something pretty unique and absolutely special and incredible. I’m delighted.”
