Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth this summer.

The Argentina international, who has made 110 Premier League appearances since arriving in 2022, is in the final months of his contract and is expected to leave the Vitality Stadium on a free transfer.

Interest has also come from Barcelona, as well as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. According to talkSPORT, Tottenham have an agreement in principle to sign Senesi.

However, the move depends on the club retaining their Premier League status. The defender is not prepared to drop into the Championship.

Spurs currently sit 18th in the table with six games remaining and are fighting to avoid relegation, with their final position expected to play a key role in the calibre of players they can attract this summer.

Senesi joined the club from Feyenoord in 2022 for £10.5million. The left-footed centre-back was a regular starter in his first two seasons on the south coast.

However, a hamstring injury and the rise of Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi as Andoni Iraola’s preferred pairing limited his involvement last season.

With Huijsen and Zabarnyi both departing in the summer, Senesi has regained a key role, making 30 league appearances this season. His return to form has also been rewarded at international level, with two appearances for Argentina this year.

Tottenham’s defensive options currently include Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin, although the club are still expected to strengthen in that area.

Luka Vuskovic is also set to return from his loan spell at Hamburg and is viewed as part of the long-term plan. Spurs are also in advanced talks to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, who is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season after a near decade-long spell.

However, any move is also believed to depend on Premier League survival. The potential arrivals of Senesi and Robertson would mark a significant defensive reshaping at Tottenham, with uncertainty surrounding several current defenders, including interest in Van de Ven and a possible departure for Dragusin.

Captain Cristian Romero also continues to attract attention, though any move would require a substantial fee due to his release clause.
