The frozen dinner box had everything you need for an Easter dinner

Ahead of Easter, I decided to do things differently this year. For my family, it is a time to come together with loved ones and enjoy tucking into a dinner together.

However, it can put a lot of pressure on whoever decides to host. There is a range of challenges, from getting the timing right and keeping everyone entertained to ensuring there is enough food to go around.

I decided to try out Cook’s Lamb Easter Dinner Box that serves six people. Everything is already done; all I needed to do was stick it all in the oven and enjoy.

The box included slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with white wine and rosemary jus, dauphinoise potatoes, red cabbage and a trio of greens. It is priced at £77.45, which works out at £12.90 per head.

The price might seem high, yet compared to going out for a meal, I feel like it works out much cheaper. Everything came frozen, so the food boxes sat in my freezer until I needed them.

The lamb needed to be defrosted for 48 hours before cooking, but this was the only real work I had to do. It was cooked for two and a half hours, then cooked for a further 30 minutes with the tin foil removed.

The dauphinoise potatoes took 70 minutes in the oven, while the vegetables were cooked in the microwave, and all took under seven minutes. I found myself having much more time to be with my family rather than in the kitchen cooking.

Aside from how much time I saved in the kitchen, the food tasted incredible. The meat was so tender and succulent, while being packed with flavour thanks to the stuffing inside.

I had never had a roasted joint of meat that tasted that good from home. The potatoes were creamy and decadent, while the vegetables were seasoned so well.

My dad thought the meal tasted better than the ones served in a nice restaurant, and we all agreed.

The only downside was that we could have done with more sides. I was worried the dauphinoise potatoes didn’t look enough to serve six people, so I planned ahead to serve my own roast potatoes alongside them.

I was very glad I did, as we only managed to get just over a tablespoon of dauphinoise potatoes each. If having again, I would order an extra side of potatoes with the box or make my own.

However, another positive was that most of the dishes came in plastic or foil trays that could be cooked in, which really helped cut down on the washing up.

Cook, which has 90 shops across the UK and offers a delivery service, also sells an Easter Chicken Pie Food Box for six people and a Vegetarian Easter Meal Box for four people.

Overall, we were all highly impressed by the meal and would definitely have it again next Easter. It is ideal for anyone who wants a seasonal treat at home without all the hassle of making everything from scratch.
