Lord Sugar’s candidates had to try and sell things on TV in their latest challenge on BBC’s The Apprentice.

A contestant from The Apprentice admitted he was “relieved” as he was sent packing in a shock double firing.

Hopeful Levi Hague was fired by Lord Sugar in the latest episode of the BBC show, alongside fellow candidate Conor Galvin. Kieran McCartney was also on the chopping block but managed to avoid getting the boot by making a deal with the businessman which will see him take on the role of project manager next week. If he loses, he will walk.

Despite losing the chance to win the £250,000 prize and secure Lord Sugar’s backing for his business, Levi admitted he was “relieved” to have been fired.

“I weren’t shocked if I’m honest, I sort of expected it to come,” said the candidate, who is from South Yorkshire.

“Lord Sugar tends to invest in things like recruitment, trades and beauty brands, and when I came in with personalised pet cremation urns it’s quite a niche industry that a lot of people don’t really know about yet. I understood it might not be something he fully saw the potential in straight away.

“So when I was fired, I wasn’t upset, I was actually quite relieved and ready to get back home to my business, my wife and my six-month-old daughter.”

Conor, who is from Cork, said he was “disappointed” to be out of the contest.

“If I could go back, I would argue my case to stay based on merit more,” he said. “I would have tried to reason with Lord Sugar that I will give 100% next week and every other week as I would in the real business world.”

“That is my only regret – not fighting my corner harder when I felt so defeated in the boardroom,” he added.

The episode saw the candidates having to sell products they believed would win over the nation, live on air.

Dan Miller, Rothna Akhtar, Kieran, Levi and Conor placed their hopes on a yoga mat, an exercise machine, a shoe dryer and a bracelet whilst Karishma Vijay, Lawrence Rosenberg, Pascha Myhill and Priyesh Bathia believed they could make a profit on some air purifying headphones, a water flosser and a ring.

However, their efforts did not impress Lord Sugar and his grandson Joe, who joined the TV star to judge the task.

Addressing Levi, Lord Sugar admitted: “I was flabbergasted… I think it was diabolical.”

He later said to his advisors: “It was the worst TV selling I have ever seen in this whole process, the worst. Painful.”

The Apprentice airs on BBC One.
